Yahoo Brings News Digest App to Android
Yahoo’s still relatively new News Digest application, which was released for iOS at Yahoo’s big keynote event at CES 2014 last January, has gotten some pretty good reception. The application, which essentially collects eight of the day’s “top” stories in one of a couple of different topics of interest, has been limited to Apple’s iOS mobile platform – until now.
Today, Yahoo! has released a port of the application for Google Android devices, including both smartphones and tablets running Android 4.0 or later. This also marks the first time that News Digest is available outside the United States or England.
If you’re familiar with News Digest on iOS devices, you know just about what to expect – Yahoo hasn’t reinvented the wheel here, and this new version of News Digest is just about the same as its iOS counterpart. Yahoo has taken the opportunity to bundle a widget that counts down until new updates, but other than that there really isn’t much new here.
Yahoo News Digest is one of the better applications to come out of the “new” Yahoo since Marissa Mayer became CEO of the company in 2012 and has secured a spot on my iPhone’s home screen for the last couple of months; I expect this new Android version will find itself an audience just the same. You can download News Digest for Android on Google Play here, or if you’d like to check out the iOS version its on the App Store here.
