Windows Vista Rant - I'm Getting Mad
Microsoft’s latest Operating System is really starting to make me mad. It’s really frustrating me, to say the least. How could it do this to me after I’ve praised it for about a year now? I’ve been using Vista since it first was released and even before then (during the times I used the beta). My machine is definitely not old or sluggish, here are the specs:
- Intel Core 2 Duo (E6600) 2.4Ghz [4MB L2 Cache] – 1066 FSB
- 3GB DDR2 PC2-5400 (667Mhz) RAM
- 1.3TB (4x 320GB 7200RPM SATA2 3Gb/s) HDD
- nVidia 256MB 7600GT
So in theory, I should be able to run Windows Vista with no problems, as my machine is well over the requirements. This however, is not the case. Until very recently, I’ve loved my Vista experience, it was excellent, and everything was working great. Granted it had its minor quarks, but lately, it’s just been ridiculously bad, and I mean horrendous. So what problems am I experiencing? Well, I’ve been unable to open explorer windows – I click “Computer” and it pops up, then immediately disappears. This happens a lot and it happens not only when I click “Computer”, but when I try to open any explorer. The only way I’ve discovered so far to remedy this is by closing almost all, if not all my open applications, and then going into explorer. Another issue, I suddenly am unable to right-click anywhere. Again, the only remedy I have found is to close all applications or at least most of them and then try again. Going back to explorer issues, sometimes I’m able to open an explorer window, but nothing will load inside it. For example, I’ll either open “Computer” or “Music” and I know there are files in these explorer windows to be shown, but nothing loads. The first time this happened to me, I almost freaked out, as it happened with my music folder, all the sudden there was nothing in it. Reopening the window seemed to have fixed it. Yes, of course, I had a backup, but, still was scary nonetheless.
I’m sorry Microsoft, but these issues I am having are essential Windows functions, that I rely on for every day usage. To be quite frank here, this is totally unacceptable to me. I’m not sure I can wait for SP1 to be fully released, and pray that it fixes these issues, when it might not fix them, I’ll be in the same place I am today, just wasting my time, while I am trying to get work done.
Microsoft: I recommended your Vista OS since I first got it, but I’m not sure that I can still recommend it, without feeling like I’ve done something wrong. By something wrong, I mean, telling something to upgrade, knowing quite well that, they too, might experience these very same problems. I’m sorry to say, but if after a year of use, Vista is still having major functioning issues I think I might have to find my way back to Windows XP.
I think I should go find my Windows XP Pro CD now… Leave a comment. Am I alone? Has anyone else experienced my pain?
