Which web surveys are legitimate? How do you know if you’re going to receive the reward promised by filling out or completing the survey? Both good questions. While there are a large number of scam sites online when it comes to making money through surveys, there are also a number of sites (not as many, unfortunately) that are legitimate.

There are some important precautions you should take before signing up and completing online surveys only to find out you wasted your time.

  1. Read the websites Terms of Use and Privacy Policy – if something doesn’t seem “right” then question it.  Additionally, you want to make sure they keep your personal information private.
  2. Look for signs of legitimacy such as a seal (logo) from Webtrust or the BBB (Better Business Bureau) or an association with a well-known company.
  3. If it asks you to pay a fee or do something in return for taking the survey do not bother with it.  No legitimate survey site will make you pay a fee or do something in return.

Below is a list of four web survey sites which I have looked into (I have not tried them myself) which I feel to be legitimate.

Surveysavvy.com
Mysurvey.com
Globaltestmarket.com
ConsumerInput.com

I should also note do not expect to make a living off taking surveys. Most surveys will only make you $5 to $10 (or the points equivalent – depending on the sites terms) and generally range from 5 to 45 minutes. I would only expect to make a couple hundred dollars (if even).
