Viber introduces new features for June, making the platform easier than ever to use

The world of messaging apps is currently run by a royal family of around ten premiere applications. There’s currently a battle among the key industry players to create an app that is the easiest-to-use and the most secure the world has ever seen. With the number of data breaches rising, hackers showcasing zero fear, and Gen Zers treating their phones as an extension of themselves, messaging and calling platforms must act accordingly to survive the future, let alone surpass the success of other platforms.

According to data retrieved from Similar Web, Rakuten Viber, the world’s most secure messaging and calling platform, is the only other app besides Facebook Messenger to become the most used messaging app in over ten countries. Viber shows strong popularity in Eastern Europe, and is the number one used app in Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, even reaching countries such as Iraq, Libya, and Sri Lanka.

Viber is now incorporating new messaging features for June, making the app easier to use than ever before. These features will speed up responses, provide better message visibility, improve group messaging and welcome users to a new desktop security functionality. Those with an iPhone or Android will be able to take part in Viber’s new and improved features, which allows them to swipe down any message for an instant response, and view chat statuses to see if someone has read your message – which means no more pretending you never received that text. Additionally, users can see which Viber groups they have in common with their contacts, which will further support the community feeling of Viber as they continue to infiltrate their platform in many different parts of the world.

The company is also updating its desktop feature for users who may share their desktop or laptop with others. Lock Viber Desktop will enable users to keep their Viber chats private and password locked while they are away from their screen. Whether traveling, in a library, sharing a computer with family members, or even at an old school internet cafe, users can access their Viber accounts and enjoy this feature with the comfort of heightened privacy and security.

“We are excited to offer people new ways to be closer and more relevant to what matters and is important to them,” says Viber CEO, Djamel Agaoua.“With our new messaging features, Viber continues the company’s commitment to user data privacy, with full end-to-end encryption set by default on all private 1 on 1 conversations, and group chats.”

The majority of people across the world either have heard of Viber or rely on its services on a daily basis. What is clear is that these new features place Viber competitively among industry-leading messaging and calling platforms. Although, most people in the Western world still chose to use what is most familiar to them, like apps such as iMessage and Whatsapp. Will Viber’s efforts in supplying users with optimal security and Gen Z level convenience be enough for people to make the switch? The world will wait and see.
