Tomorrow is the Apple event in Brooklyn, what will we see?
The Apple event is scheduled for tomorrow, October 30 at 10AM ET, to be held in Brooklyn. You may remember that the event invites, which went out about a week or so ago, sported the tagline “There’s more in the making” as a teaser. And let’s not forget how there were 60+ variations of the event invite that were sent out to press.
So what will Apple announce?
We know Apple already unveiled the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, and Apple Watch Series 4 in September at its last big event. This time around Apple is expected to show off two redesigned iPad Pro models, a new MacBook, and likely other updates to the Mac line.
Here’s what I think we’re going to see. I’ll break it down by Absolutely, Maybe, and Don’t hold your breath.
Absolutely
These are announcements I believe will absolutely be made tomorrow.
Redesigned iPad Pro
I definitely expect to see two new versions of the iPad Pro introduced tomorrow: a new 11-inch size and a redesigned 12.9-inch size.
Both models will feature Face ID and the all-screen design with no notch, therefore discontinuing Touch ID. I’m really excited about the thinner bezels on the new iPad Pros. I currently have a 12.9-inch iPad Pro and I can’t wait to get one of the new ones.
Some other things I’ve heard/seen that I take with a grain of salt: possible change the Smart Connector and possibly replacing the Lightning port with a USB-C port. I’m not sure why there would be a change to the Smart Connector–that I see as the least likely, the change to USB-C is intriguing, will Apple want to go through the whole 30-pin USB to Lightning Port all over again? If we know anything about Apple is that they’re not afraid to make changes if they see them as beneficial for the long-term.
New Mac mini
So about the Mac mini–I’m going to say it’s a definite for tomorrow. If you walk into an Apple Store and buy a brand new Mac mini in 2018, you’re buying hardware from 2014. I expect the Mac mini to be updated this Fall with modern specs that could also result in a starting price climb.
MacBook or MacBook Air
I think this event will seal the fate of the MacBook Air in one way or another. It’ll be either refreshed or it won’t and it’ll be dead. One thing I feel very sure of tomorrow is either the MacBook lineup will be refreshed or the MacBook Air lineup will. I’m just not sure which.
Maybe
These are announcements that I feel may happen.
Updated iMac
Apple last upgraded the iMac lineup in June 2017 as part of its WWDC event, and the iMac Pro hit the market in December 2017. It’s entirely possible we could see an iMac refresh this month with slight processing boosts and improvements to the display.
Don’t hold your breath
These are announcements that I don’t see happening and would frankly be shocked if they did.
Updated iMac Pro
The iMac Pro was released in December 2017, that’s less than a year ago. I don’t foresee any updates being made to the system yet. If anything, it’ll be updated alongside the release of the brand new Mac Pro in 2019.
New Apple Display
There haven’t been any whispers of this happening, and if/when it does, it’ll likely be next year with the release of the new Mac Pro.
