The Latest Remastered Halo 2 Map to Be Unveiled is Lockout
I haven’t played a game of Halo 2 since 2005. That is nine years ago. Nine years since I logged into Xbox Live on my now-ancient Xbox and got into some Halo 2 multiplayer. Nine years.
A lot has happened since then, both in my life and in video games, and I’ve forgotten quite a bit of this classic title. But every time Microsoft and 343 unveil a remastered Halo 2 multiplayer map, the memories rush back, and I remember how much fun I had playing this game with friends — both on the couch and online.
The latest map to be revealed, Lockout, is another one of those maps I that used to love but forgot about.
Here’s a bit of Microsoft’s press release for the map announcement:
“Lockout was hands-down the most popular small arena-style map in ‘Halo 2,'” said Max Hoberman, president of Certain Affinity and one of the original lead designers on “Halo 2.”
“We’re thrilled to be bringing this fan-favorite back, and are paying close attention to the details and subtleties that made the original great while also making a couple of very careful, very calculated enhancements. Most prominent among these are a bit of cover added to the ‘Elbow,’ the long walkway connecting the grav lift to the sniper tower, and a dynamic element that should help counter an entrenched group of enemies. Of course this can be disabled in Forge for players who want a near-match of the original experience.”

Watching the above video really takes me back. I’m reminded of all the grenades that used to come up the gravity lift, and the fun I had turning a corner and taking someone on in close quarters. Seeing Lockout recreated for the next generation has me pretty excited for Master Chief Collection, and there’s still one more map to be unveiled!
I’m curious, by the way — which map do you think will be the last? I kind of have my heart set on Midship. What about you?
