Skype launches free video messaging on Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android
Skype has been testing this in beta for some time now, but it looks like the company is ready to make it official; Skype today has officially launched a free video messaging service on Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android, allowing Skype users to send short, pre-recorded video clips to each other free of charge. Though Skype limited the amount of videos a user could send during the beta period, Skype now allows for unlimited videos to be sent entirely free of charge, whether you’re a Skype Premium user or a basic user.
Most of the official Skype clients have been upgraded to allow this new functionality, including Skype for Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android. Curiously enough, Skype – which is owned by Microsoft – does not currently offer a version of their Windows Phone client that includes this functionality. In a world where Microsoft has been pushing their new products so heavy handedly, it’s strange to see the company offer a subpar experience on their own platforms when compared to what they offer on the competition’s – and let’s face it, Windows Phone needs all the help it can get.
Skype has uploaded a new how-to video on their official YouTube page, which has been embedded below.
