Samsung “Unpacked” Invites Leaked Early
It’s no real secret that Samsung will be unveiling its latest and greatest flagship smartphone soon – with predictions and rumors that it’ll take to the stage to coincide with the upcoming Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona this March to make the announcement. Today, it seems that invitations to Samsung’s “Galaxy Unpacked” have been leaked online, which, if they’re real, actually reveal very little – except that we’re going to find out something on March 1 in Barcelona.
According to 9to5Google, Samsung has yet to officially send out its invites to any such event. The image of the invite appeared on a Vietnamese site, tinhte.vn. The post adds a comment from Samsung on the invite:
“Thanks for reaching out. The invitation has not been officially released by Samsung. We will have details to share with you very soon.”
March 1, of course, is when MWC officially kicks off in Barcelona. Moreover, the invite says, simply, “What’s Next,” which would certainly seem to indicate that Samsung’s next flagship is in the offing for that event. However, the curved line above that tag is pretty mysterious – what could that indicate? Will it be an entire line of curved-edge smartphones? Will the Galaxy S6 have a curved display? Or maybe a new smartwatch with a curved display, like the Gear S wearable?
It could be any of these, and more. Samsung speculation is kicking into high gear these days, as the electronics giant has faced declining profits and difficulties specifically in the mobile division. Recently, rumors were seemingly confirmed that the company was dropping Qualcomm as its processor supplier for the upcoming Galaxy S6, leading to questions about what Samsung will use in its place – and whether or not its replacement will get the job done.
It’s clear that changes are happening at Samsung, but how they’ll play out in public is anybody’s guess. Hopefully these invites are the real deal – and maybe we’ll even hear some more details before the event happens on March 1.
