Samsung Galaxy S6 Specs Leak Again

A new post on 9to5Google today reports that a prototype of Samsung’s next flagship phone – the Galaxy S6 – has been benchmarked online, revealing specifications for the new handset that will hopefully reverse the company’s ailing mobile fortunes. Are these the real deal?

According to benchmarks from AnTuTu, the Samsung Galaxy S6 is powered by the Exynos 7420, a 64-bit octa-core CPU. It’s also got 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and features a 5.5-inch, 1440×2560 pixel display. It’ll also feature a powerful 20 megapixel rear camera, with a respectable 5 megapixels in the front. All of these specs fall right in line with what we’d heard of the S6 back in November, though now we know that the screen will near phablet proportions (as if there was really ever any doubt).

Meanwhile, a post on Re/code from yesterday reports that three deputy executives from Samsung’s mobile division have departed, pointing back to rumors that a shakeup was looming. Meanwhile, mobile boss JK Shin is still in charge of the division, and the Galaxy S6 would appear to be his big plan to save the mobile operation’s bottom line.

Samsung got to its position as one of the top smartphone makers in the world by packing a lot of features and power into attractive handsets. However, many consumers have grown bored with Samsung’s design, and the company’s inattention to how well their software works has begun to grate on Android fans’ nerves. If the Galaxy S6 can wow people with an attractive design and some truly innovative features, it might recapture their hearts and minds. At the very least, Samsung would do well to find a way to make its TouchWiz UI less cumbersome. That could go a long way toward bringing Android fans back into the fold.
