Qualcomm Acquires Palm Patent Portfolio from HP
According to a press release, it seems Qualcomm has just announced that it acquired Palm’s patent portfolio from HP which comprised of approximately 1,400 granted patents and pending patent applications in the US and approximately 1,000 granted patents and pending patent applications from other countries. The patents cover technologies that include fundamental mobile operating system techniques. The acquisition also included patents related to IPAQ and Bitfone.
No price for the acquisition has been provided at this time. It looks like Qualcomm plans to use the mobile patent portfolio to allow the company to “offer even more value to current and future licensees.”
You have to wonder just how much Qualcomm paid HP for Palm’s patent portfolio, the fact that it wasn’t required to be disclosed means it wasn’t likely that high of a price tag. Seems I’m not alone in my thinking either:
Interesting that the Palm patent portfolio Qualcomm just purchased from HPQ didn't meet threshold to require disclosing price…
