One of Two iPhone 6 Versions Could Release this Fall, Analysts Say
Another day, another iPhone 6 rumor churning through the tech industry mill. Today, a report out of Barron’s indicates that Apple is prepping to launch one of its two iPhone 6 models as early as Fall 2014.
The news comes from a research note made by UBS analyst Steve Milunovich, who specifically claims that Apple will have a 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch version of the iPhone 6 in production soon, with one of the two set to release in a matter of months.
Specifically, the report details the likely release of the smaller, 4.7-inch model around August or September, while the larger, 5.5-inch device “may or may not launch at the same time” but “could be of the same resolution” as its more compact brethren. Milunovich points out that this would “help app developers” in developing for these varying screen sizes, and keeping Apple from fragmenting their audience more than they might be wise.
For Android developers, the fragmentation problem is rampant, due to varying OS support, screen size and resolution, and processing power. With Apple, it hasn’t been much of an issue, since only recently has screen size and resolution really shifted. But if they decide to go the way of the Google, iOS developers could find themselves in a similar pickle to those making apps for Android.
