Nvidia’s New Venture: Mobile Graphics
When I think of quality computer graphics, I, like most technologically savvy individuals think of Nvidia’s graphic chips. This is because Nvidia has earned a reputation of having high-performance and high-quality chipsets, which ultimately lead to a better end-user experience; especially for those who deal extensively with computer gaming, graphic editing, and other intensive graphic tasks. Having done a great job in making a name for themselves in the computer world, Nvidia has recently announced plans to jump aboard the next big thing and enter the mobile graphics market.
I have already stressed that the mobile industry is going to be huge. In the last week it has been predicted that the mobile computing market will not only have higher gains than the traditional PC market, but will ultimately surpass it altogether. This is the same concept that has allowed justified companies such as Acer; a well-known computer manufacturer, to enter the tablet PC market in hopes of capitalizing on the latest trend.
It only makes sense that the manufactueres of traditional PC components should decide to make a leap into the promising mobile market. Nvidia is no exception.
One of the biggest things that graphics cards are used for in desktop computers is the gaming experience. By putting powerful graphics cards inside of devices such as the iPad, we could easily see a new trend of mobile gamers emerging. While it would be silly to even ponder a world in which mobile gaming overtook console and PC-based gaming, I still think that there is an industry to be made out of it; and a successful one at that.
To further extend this concept, I believe that if more trusted and well-known companies like Nvidia were to step up to the plate in gambling the mobile market we would see a higher number of users willing to try mobile devices, simply because users would feel comfortable in knowing that their experience was backed by a proven company.
An interesting point to be made is that Nvidia seems to have a great relationship with Apple, as their graphics cards are the ones used in the Mac Mini and MacBook / MacBook Pro computers. With this in mind, we can see that Apple is already taking advantage of Nvidia’s technology in their mobile and compact products, so it would be safe to imagine that they could very well implement Nvidia graphics into future generations of devices such as the iPad.
All in all, we can only speculate at what Nvidia will do in the mobile market; who they will pair up with and if they will even be successful. However, the fact of the matter is that Nvidia obviously has enough faith in the ever-growing mobile market to justify investing their resources in mobile development. It’s really just a matter of where they’ll take it.
