My Name Is Jeff and I'm Getting An Apple Watch

Welcome to Bits & Bytes episode 7! Today is April 5 2015 and I am your host Jeff Weisbein! Happy Easter and Passover! I hope you have all had a good week. Before I start, I’m going to try something new going forward, in addition to publishing the podcast on BestTechie.com and iTunes I am going to upload it to my YouTube channel as well (at least for a few episodes) which you can find at YouTube.com/besttechie. So if you’re listening on YouTube right now — welcome to Bits & Bytes, a mostly tech podcast. I’ll put a link down below to where you can find older episodes.

Take a listen! Of course, you can leave feedback here in the comments or tweet at me on Twitter. And don’t forget to subscribe to Bits & Bytes on iTunes!

My name is Jeff Meme

We need to talk about this meme. For those who don’t know it, first: welcome to planet Earth. In the very beginning of the movie 22 Jump Street starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, the two are undercover trying to bust some criminals. Jonah’s character has the bright idea to be a Mexican gangster and provokes Channing’s character into playing along. So Channing says, in quite possibly the worst fake accent ever, “My name is Jeff.”

I’ll play you a clip because I even could probably even do it as poorly, well, maybe.

Anyway, so… the line blew up. I’ve seen it everywhere. We have Batman saying his name is Jeff, today I saw Spiderman saying his name was Jeff. And it’s getting to a point now where people I’m just meeting don’t believe my name is actually Jeff. Thanks Channing Tatum.

Apple Watch

5 days until Apple Watch pre-orders! The pre-orders start at 12:01AM PST. That’s 3:01AM EST. If you live anywhere else, go do your own time conversion.

Oh, did you know the news this week that if you’re planning to buy the Apple Watch Edition (that’s the $10k to $17k model that us poor smucks can’t afford), you get the skip the line at the Apple Store? Yeah, that’s a neat perk. I guess that’s OK until some people get the bright idea to lie and mess everything up. I also read this week that Apple Care for the Edition models costs $1,000. I mean what’s $1,000 if you’re dropping 10 g’s on a watch.

Amazon Dash

This week Amazon announced this thing called Amazon Dash. The thing is they announced it on March 31 and everyone (including me for a period of time) thought it was an early April Fools joke. It’s not. Dash is basically a physical button that lets you order more of a product from Amazon with one push. I’m not joking. I’m lazy… but am I THAT lazy? Eh, probably.

I’m curious to see how some of the logistics play out, like if you can set price ceilings for things. The other thing I’m not sure how I feel about is having all these branded buttons cluttering up my house just so I can order things more easily. I like simple, clean lines, minimal… the last thing I think I’d want is some big fat button plopped onto my dish washer or laundry machine.

So yeah, that’s this week episode. Thanks for listening to Bits & Bytes! You can find me on Twitter @jeffweisbein and tweet at me that I’m an idiot or you can do that over email, my email is jeff [at] besttechie [dot] com. Thanks again and remember, remember, take care of your computers!
