Microsoft's 'Countdown to 2015' Sale Offers Nice Discounts on Digital Xbox One, Xbox 360 Games
Are you big on buying digital games for your Xbox One or Xbox 360? Microsoft’s latest holiday sale, called the “Countdown to 2015,” may interest you. The sale runs today through January 1, 2015, and will feature a different set of deals every day as well as a pack of weekly deals.
Today’s deals include discounts on Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor and LEGO The Hobbit for Xbox One, as well as LEGO The Hobbit and LEGO Lord of the Rings for Xbox 360.
I’ve looked through some of the weekly deals and found some that I think are really, really good. They are:
- Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes (XBO) – $6.60
- Wolfenstein: The New Order (XBO) – $30
- The Evil Within (XBO) – $30
- Far Cry 4 + The Crew Bundle (XBO) – $89.99
- Dark Souls II (360) – $19.99
- Tomb Raider (360) – $6.59
- Bioshock Infinite (360) – $4.49
The weekly specials are scheduled to end on December 22, when they will presumably be switched out for a new set of discounts.
I’m pretty darn impressed with Microsoft’s approach to this holiday season. If you look back at last holiday, which is close to when the system launched, the Xbox One looked like a much different product. The company now seems more confident in the console’s direction, and we’ve seen a lot of improvements in key areas. Digital game discounts aren’t an area I’d consider crucial, but Microsoft improved there all the same.
Another takeaway I have — how amazing is the Xbox 360 right now in terms of value? You can pick the system up at a cheap price and play some of the best games of the last decade. And the jump from the 360 to the One isn’t as drastic as the jump from the original Xbox to the 360. You have to go back pretty far into the 360’s library to find games that look extremely dated. Most look just fine (heck, throw in a copy of Halo 4 and tell me it isn’t a technological feat).
