It Only Took 7 Years But Malwarebytes for Mac Is Finally Here

I have always been a huge fan and advocate for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (Disclosure: I’m good personal/professional friends with the founder/CEO of the company). But despite my friendship, the product is amazing — it’s helped millions of people and businesses all over the world remove more than 5 billion infections to date. That’s insane.

Anyway, in August 2008 I made the switch, you know, from PC to Mac. Now at the time Mac malware wasn’t nearly as prevalent as it is today. As Apple products have become more popular over the years, including Mac computers, the bad guys have started targeting us Apple users with malware. Before you freak out though, you should understand it’s nowhere near as bad as it is on Windows.

However, that being said, it’s always better to safe than sorry which is why shortly after I made the switch to Mac I started to bug Marcin Kleczynski (Malwarebytes Founder/CEO) about making a Mac version. Every several months or so I’d message him about it and his response would always be the same: “No.”

But here we are now, 7 years later and it looks like he finally listened to me! Malwarebytes has released a Mac version of its anti-malware app. Did I download it? You bet I did! I’m pretty sure I was within the first 100 downloads or so. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac is completely free. Currently the app only has scanning and removal functionality, so in other words, it will scan your Mac for potentially unwanted programs (also known as PUPs) and give you the option to them (if found).

No word on whether or not a realtime protection module is coming but I’m going to pry and see what I can find out. Stay tuned on that! In the mean you can download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac right now!
