Get Over It: The iPhone 3G Doesn’t Support Backgrounds
“The icon animation with backgrounds didn’t perform well enough.” says Steve Jobs in an email response with regard to the iPhone 3G not supporting backgrounds. My thoughts? Get over it. You have been living without the ability to set backgrounds since 2007 for the original iPhone, 2008 for the iPhone 3G, and even 2009 for the iPhone 3GS (until now), knowing full well you couldn’t when you purchased the device originally. Apple hasn’t taken away any features of functionality that you were given, they simply did not add new features to an older model device.
Believe it or not, this is not uncommon – software companies do this, hardware companies do this, many businesses use this approach to generate sales of newer products. And you know what, there is nothing wrong that or with trying to make more money for something you and/or your company worked hard to create.
That’s part of the beauty of the capitalism and free-markets, etc. So for all of you who are whining and complaining about your 3G not supporting backgrounds while the 3GS and iPhone 4 do – guess what. Next year, there will be something else which the 3GS will not support and the iPhone 4 and next years new iPhone will.
