Intel Plans to Shut Down Its Motherboard Business
Today Intel announced that it will be shutting down its motherboard business and allocating its resources to the newer and emerging mobile business.
What does that mean? It means that the traditional PC tower system is slowly on its way out. Intel is now planning to put more resources into to ultrabooks, tablets, and phones. “The internal talent and experience of twenty years in the boards business…is being redistributed to address emerging new form factors,” Intel said.
If you’re a traditionalist or a hardcore gamer, you don’t need to worry yet. Companies such as ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, and others are still going to be producing motherboards. And Intel still plans to invest in new powerful desktop processors for the time being.
