Instagram Hits 100 Million Active Users

In a blog post today, Instagram announced it has reached 100 million active users.  That milestone comes in just two and half years from its launch.

“It’s easy to see this as an accomplishment for a company, but I think the truth is that it’s an accomplishment for our community,” said CEO Kevin Systrom in the company’s blog post. “Now, more than ever, people are capturing the world in real-time using Instagram—sharing images from the farthest corners of the globe. What we see as a result is a world more connected and understood through photographs.”

To put this in perspective, it took Twitter over six years to hit 200 million active users.

And now, we wait for Instagram to start making Facebook some money, since well, it did spend one billion dollars to acquire the company.
