Images and Specs for HTC One M9 Allegedly Leak

A new post on TechCrunch today rounds up a whole slew of images and specifications for HTC’s new flagship phone, the HTC One M9, which apparently goes under the codename “Hima.” The short version? It looks almost identical to last year’s HTC One M8 (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing considering its great critical reception), though the much touted Duo Camera seems gone from this new handset.

The bulk of the images and information comes from German tech site MobileGeeks.de, which itself snagged the pictures from a German retailer that foolishly posted photos a solid week ahead of HTC’s March 1 announcement at Mobile World Congress. Additionally, the leaked photos came along with leaked specifications. Here’s what the One M9 will pack under the hood:

  • 5-inch Display running at 1080p
  • 20.7 Megapixel rear camera, 4.0 megapixel front camera with HTC’s “Ultrapixel” tech
  • Android Lollipop 5.0 (with HTC Sense 7)
  • 2,840mAh battery
  • 3GB of RAM
  • 2Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 CPU (though some rumors pin it at 2.8Ghz)

You may have noticed that those are roughly the same specifications from the M8. Some key differences are a 1 GB bump in RAM, a beefy 20 MP camera, and a slightly more powerful battery. The processor, too, is an octa-core rather than a quad-core from the previous iteration. In a nutshell, it’s the M8, but better. That’s good – but will it be good enough?

More than likely, HTC will tout new advantages for the One M9 on the software side of things. As we can see, it’s sticking with its HTC Sense version of Android, which isn’t much of a surprise. That, though, may be where HTC tries to make its big selling point – what kinds of new bells and whistles will the new version of Sense offer to entice users to sticking with HTC’s custom UI? There are also rumors of a new HTC wearable making its debut at MWC next week, so that might end up being the big push with the One M9’s reveal too.
