Google Glass adds more hands-free features, Web browsing

Google Glass devices are limited to a very select audience, but that isn’t stopping Google from continuing to add new features. The company announced an update today on Google+, promising to bring brand new hands-free voice commands, access to all of your Gmail contacts and Web browsing. The update will be rolled out over the next few days.

Because Glass is a wearable device and resides on your face, Google understands that constantly reaching up to control the user interface isn’t optimal. The update to Glass’s hands-free voice commands allows you to have incoming messages read to you and also lets you reply without touching Glass at all. You’ll also be able to answer phone calls and share with your contacts using commands like “Okay Glass, share with Bob.”

Speaking of contacts, you’re no longer limited to 10. Google Glass will be able to pull in all of your Gmail contacts after the update, providing you with the ability to contact any of your friends, family members or acquaintances. When sending a message, you’ll be able to swipe through your contacts and tap on a profile picture to select that person.

And, last but not least, Web browsing has made its way to Google Glass. When you’re doing a search on the device, you can tap the “View website” button to load up a full page. While viewing a Web page on Google Glass isn’t quite as efficient as doing so on a larger screen, Google thought to include a bunch of different gestures in order to make the browsing experience more pleasant.

As stated earlier, the update is supposed to roll out over the next few days, so don’t panic if you aren’t seeing it yet. If you’re one of those lucky chaps who is using Google Glass and you update the software, don’t hesitate to drop us a line and tell us what you think about it.
