Facebook Incorporating Hashtags Into The Social Network
The WSJ is reporting that Facebook will be incorporating hashtags into the social network, a move that would allow Facebook to tap into and index trending conversations quickly. This move also would give users the ability to jump around trending topics and see what other people are saying, similarly to how users of Twitter do.
It’s also worth noting that Instagram, which Facebook acquired last year, already has implemented the use of hashtags, that allow users to sort photos by topic.
At this time, Facebook is keeping quiet about the potential implementation of hashtags, but I just read an interesting take on the situation over at All Things D, which I definitely recommend you read if you’re interested on how Facebook hashtags could both help and hurt Twitter.
