BlackBerry CEO is Very Upset About Product Leaks, Threatens Legal Action

Mere days after a private beta build of an upcoming version of the upcoming BlackBerry 10.3 update leaked onto the web, BlackBerry CEO John Chen has posted a rather angry blog post on the official BlackBerry blog swearing revenge on individuals who “falsely posed” as an employee of a BlackBerry partner in order to “obtain access to secured networks” – or, in other words, to obtain confidential trade secrets exactly like information regarding that upcoming BlackBerry 10.3 update.

Chen has promised to “pursue legal action” against these individuals, who Chen clarifies, “stole confidential information about a future BlackBerry product.” This situation is very similar to Microsoft’s just announced legal action against a Microsoft employee who leaked confidential information and builds of numerous pre-release versions of Windows, including Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Of course, John Chen points out that fans of the BlackBerry community might be slightly disgruntled to hear that news regarding upcoming BlackBerry hardware and software might start coming in more slowly as a result of BlackBerry’s new stance on leaks. But I’d be willing to bet that, considering how many people are involved in the development of any major piece of software or hardware, we’ll still get our fair share of sneak peaks – even if they come short of a full beta build leak.
