Apple’s Macbook Pro: More RAM for All, Lower Price for Some Models
Continuing its trend of improving its products without bumping up the price, Apple has made a few changes to the specs for its Macbook Pro line of laptops. The changes aren’t mind-blowing, but they’re a nice improvement for those in the market for a Pro.
The 15-inch models of the Macbook Pro with Retina display each come with 16 GB of RAM right off the bat. Both are armed with Intel i7 CPUs as well, with each different model – packed with 256 GB and 512 GB SSDs – clocking in at 2.2GHz and 2.5GHz, respectively. That highest-end 15-inch model also saw a $100 price cut. The 13-inch models have gotten a CPU upgrade too, with the faster Intel Haswell chips taking the place of their previous Intel CPUs, while the entry level Macbook Pro – sans Retina display – also saw a $100 cut in price.
In all, even with the aforementioned price cuts, the new Macbook Pros are still all pretty expensive, with the least costly unit coming in at $1,099 with models raning all the way up to $2,499. But the fact that Apple is boosting their performance at no extra charge is a nice move on their part.
This is just the latest hardware revision to come down the pike from Apple. In June, the company released a less expensive iMac model, while a couple months earlier, Apple lowered the price and boosted the CPU speed of the Macbook Air line. The end result has been a bit more flexibility and purchasing power for Apple fans, a move that I’m sure they appreciate.
Will Apple keep the trend going? It seems like only a matter of time before the current crop of iPads and iPhones get their own price cuts. That will surely coincide with the forthcoming announcements of the iPhone 6 and whatever new iPad Apple has up its sleeves.
With this new focus on savings, though, can we expect the company’s new devices to start out at a slightly less expensive rate? Or will the new iPhone – and the iWatch – start out at the company’s typical, premium highs?
