Apple Preparing HD Audio Support in iOS 8 Alongside New In-Ear Headphones

If you thought Apple had forgotten about the music industry, you would appear to be mistaken. Apple is rumored to be working on some significant upgrades to iOS 8’s music application which would provide support for 24-bit audio files. Coincidentally, this is happening at the exact moment when Apple has been rumored to have purchased Beats Music for the sum of $3.2 billion.  According to a report by Mac Otakara, Apple is preparing to build in support for high fidelity audio files. This jives will with earlier reports that suggested Apple would be launching higher quality audio files in the iTunes Store at WWDC next month.

Additionally, Apple could be launching a couple of new accessories and an updated Made for iPhone specification to better support this focus on higher quality audio files. An upgraded pair of in-ear headphones is also reportedly on the way, which would provide better audio quality than the existing headphones, which currently retail for $79. Apple last upgraded their In-Ear Headphones way back in 2008.

We’ll probably hear more on Apple’s plans for an upgraded music experience at WWDC ’14, which kicks off on June 2nd. Apple is expected to use WWDC ’14 as a launchpad for both iOS 8 and OS X 10.10. While iOS 8 is expected to be a relatively minor upgrade to the company’s mobile portfolio, OS X 10.10 will receive the same sort of redesign that iOS received last summer.
