Apple Counts Down to 50 Billion App Downloads and $10,000 Gift Card Giveaway

Wow, 50 billion.  The big five-zero.  That’s incredible.  Apple is quickly approaching the 50 billionth app download in its App Store and to celebrate it’s going to give the lucky downloader a $10,000 App Store gift card.

Apple also put together a list of the top 25 apps (in terms of downloads) for both the iPhone and iPad.  It’s crazy to see that both the YouTube app and the Google Maps app are already on that list of most downloaded iPhone apps, especially since they were really only released somewhat recently.  It’s also really interesting to see how many of the top apps are games, in fact 23 of the 50 top iPhone apps are games and 15 of the top 25 paid iPad apps are games as well.

You can also enter to win up to 25 times per day until the countdown is reached.

Update: Apple has reached the 50 billion app download mark. The winner of the giveaway, who is yet to be announced, will be awarded a $10,000 gift card valid for App Store, Mac App Store, or any other iTunes Store content. Fifty additional winners will receive $500 gift cards.
