Apple Watch Sells Out in Six Hours
If you were one of the lucky ducks who got up early to pre-order your Apple Watch, chances are good you’ll receive it before the end of the month. But for the other schmoes out there, the Apple Watch is sold out through this June, says a post on 9to5Mac on Friday.
The sell-out occurred in “less than six hours,” and all models of the Apple Watch will ship by late May, or, even more likely, early June. That the Apple Watch sold out after less than a day on the market isn’t too surprising, though. The anticipation for the device has been high for literally years, ever since we first heard word that Apple might be working on a wearable. Now that it’s finally here, and looks pretty good despite some mixed reviews, it’s easy to see why the company would sell out of its initial assortment.
Moreover, I took some time this morning to lay out another reason the Apple Watch might have sold out: namely, a shorter production run that might make the device seem that much more valuable by way of its rarity. Maybe that’s the case, maybe it’s not, but either way, one thing is clear: it’s tough to find the dang Apple Watch at the moment, no matter what configuration you might be looking for.
So leave it to eBay to try and sell you an already overpriced device for even more. Another post on 9to5Mac has the story, pointing the way back to eBay listings for the Apple Watch marked up well over their retail prices. A cursory search seems to reveal somewhat more reasonable pricing at the time of this writing, but there are still listings like this one, which are trying to sell an Apple Watch (which is usually about $549) for $4,000. Impressive! Oh, eBay. Never change.
Did you manage to pre-order yours? Or are you waiting for some real world reviews to come rolling in?
