Apple Releases iOS 8.0.2, Which Hopefully Works
Earlier this week, Apple went ahead and pissed off roughly 40,000 people who had shiny new iPhone 6 handsets by releasing a buggy update for iOS 8. Within an hour the update was pulled, but needless to say, it wasn’t a fun time for Apple. Late in the evening yesterday, however, Apple released a new new update for its mobile operating system: iOS 8.0.2, which will supposedly fix all the problems introduced in iOS 8.0.1, to say nothing of the initial issues in iOS 8 that the first update was meant to fix. Got all that?
A post on CNET relays part of a statement from Apple on the new update:
“iOS 8.0.2 … fixes an issue that affected iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users who downloaded iOS 8.0.1, and includes improvements and bug fixes originally in iOS 8.0.1. We apologize for inconveniencing the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users who were impacted by the bug in iOS 8.0.1.”
So now that the new update is out and showing up on users’ devices, everything should be hunky dory. The new update will allow developers to make use of the HealthKit features in iOS 8, and will also fix other problems with Safari. All in all, a couple days isn’t too bad a turnaround time for these fixes – but I’ll tell you what, if I’d been affected by this issue days after getting a new iPhone, I wouldn’t be so charitable with my forgiveness.
Nor, of course, will I feel so charitable when my phone eventually melts into a pile of slag whenever Android L is released in a few months. I can’t wait to get pissed off.
