Apple Releases OS X 10.9.2, Fixes Major SSL Vulnerability

Apple has today released OS X 10.9.2, fixing the major SSL vulnerability in Apple’s OS X platform that was made public and patched in the company’s mobile iOS platform last week. The new update is highly recommended for everyone with a Mac computer, as the vulnerability puts users, and their potentially sensitive information, at a huge risk of exploitation.

The flaw allowed anyone with access to either a wired or wireless connection to intercept data transmitted through a device that remains un-patched. To date, the flaw had been discovered in all Macs running OS X Mavericks, iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users running iOS 6 and up, and Apple TV users.

OS X 10.9.2 also brings with it a suite of other fixes and changes, notably including support for Apple’s new FaceTime Audio service, which launched alongside iOS 7 last September. VoiceOver control has also been improved in 10.9.2, as well as the audio distortion issue that has plagued the platform for some time.

We highly recommend you install this update on any Mac you have running OS X Mavericks as soon as possible – one less vulnerable device is one less chance your sensitive information could get into the wrong hands.
