LG Develops Flexible Display, Plans Mass Production
A report by The Korea Times, is stating that electronics manufacturer LG, has developed a flexible display and has plans to mass produce it. Apparently, LG has been investing in new products and ways to generate more revenue after its Chairman, Koo Bon-moo, issued a challenge to create market-leading products with the potential to revive the company. The investments will hopefully pay off for LG, as smartphone makers look for ways to continue to differentiate from the competition.
The new high-tech displays, are organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays and support ultra high-definition (UHD). While there aren’t any more specific details, it sounds enticing. “We have completed the development of our first flexible displays. We will mass produce flexible displays from the fourth quarter of this year,” LG told The Korea Times. LG has plans to release its first flexible display smartphone later this year, and is also interested in selling the displays to other mobile device makers.
If LG is able to supply major mobile device makers with flexible displays, they will have hit a major home run and can expect to reap some serious rewards in the form of cold hard cash.
Of course, LG isn’t alone in this endeavor, one of its major competitors, Samsung, is also reportedly working on a similar product, however, it is said that the Samsung product isn’t nearly as far along as LG’s.
Flexible displays are here and could very well be latest trend in the mobile industry. We also heard rumors that Apple was working with a flexible display for the rumored iWatch.
