U.S. Galaxy S 4 Processor Confirmed As A Quad-Core Snapdragon 600

On Friday, Qualcomm confirmed that the U.S. version of the Samsung Galaxy S 4 will come with a 1.9Ghz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor instead of the “octo-core” Exynos 5 processor. This isn’t entirely surprising considering Samsung did essentially the same thing with the Galaxy S III, which in the U.S. sports s a dual-core processor, and a quad-core processor internationally.

The processor in the U.S. Galaxy S 4 is actually the same chip that can be found in the HTC One and LG Optimus G Pro. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 offers up to 40 percent better performance than the Snapdragon S4 Pro, and also has an updated version of the Adreno 320 GPU, and LPDDR3 memory support.  Despite the U.S. version of the Galaxy S 4 not having the eight-core processor, it does have a faster clock speed than the Exynos 5 found in the international Galaxy S 4.  The Exynos 5 has four fast CPU cores, paired with four slower and more power-efficient cores which handle most of your daily operations, while the faster cores will only kick in when increased processor power is required.
